The Studies of the Blood Features, Urinary Specific Gravity and Urinary Electrolyte Concentration in Burned Patients

Abstract
The hemoglobin, hematocrit valued in blood, and specific gravity, sodium, chloride, potassium
and ammonia in urine were studied in 58 fresh burned patients of 10 to 80% of body surface area. The venous blood was drawn on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th postburn day. The urine were examined on 8, 24, 48 postburn hours.
The results were obtained as follows;
1. Generally, there were moderate increase in hemoglobin and hematocrit values between the 1st and 2nd,day after burning.
2. Urinary specific gravity was above its normal limits on the 1st and 2nd postburn day, thereafter it was gradually decreased and returned to normal limits.
3. Na, Cl and K levels in 8, 24 hours and 2nd days urine showed gradual increase in early postburn period, however, these values were subnormal limits in comparison with normal healthy Korean adults except postassium concentration.
4. Ammonia nitrogen levels in urine were within normal limits in early postburn period.
